How the program works here
The Utah Division of Air Quality forecasts an action level for each Wasatch Front county — Unrestricted, Voluntary, or Mandatory — and that level is the wood-burn call. The DAQ’s wood burn program runs “between Nov. 1 and March 1, each year” in its own words, and its red, Mandatory condition means “the use of coal and wood burning stoves is prohibited unless they emit no smoke.”
Outside that season the same forecast keeps running, but it is the DAQ’s summer air program — the action level says nothing about wood in July. Counties whose forecast the DAQ publishes only in the winter season show “No forecast published” until it starts.
