How the program works here
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency calls air quality burn bans for King, Kitsap, Pierce, and Snohomish counties — typically in the calm, cold winter months when wood smoke gets trapped. The statuses above are the agency’s own, read from its burn ban status page, area by area.
The stages differ: in the agency’s own words, “If you have a certified device, you may use it during a stage 1 burn ban without needing an exemption. If you don’t have a certified device, it is illegal to burn during a stage 1 AND a stage 2 burn ban.”
These are air quality burn bans only. Summer’s fire-safety burn bans are a different product from the county fire marshals — the county pages on this site carry that side.
